Inspired by The Interfaith Youth Core Conference in Chicago in October of 2007, youth in Cincinnati decided to bring home what they learned – and Metro Cincinnati Interfaith Youth was created. Since then, about twenty youth of different denominations, cultures, races, and parts of town met regularly throughout the school year to talk with each other about various topics, socialize, and do service projects to give back to the Greater Cincinnati Community. The group, overseen by the Metropolitan Area Religious Coalition of Cincinnati and its coalition partners in faith, has even bigger and better plans for the future!
So far in the 2009-2010 school year, we have been meeting twice a month, having one service project and one educational meeting per month. In October we had an interfaith leadership training with a representative from Interfaith Youth Core, and took 5 youth to the Interfaith Youth Core’s Chicago Conference. In November a group of our youth served dinner at the Drop Inn Center, and in December our youth helped prepare and serve dinner and run evening activities with homeless families through Interfaith Hospitality Network. In January, youth made 20 blankets for Project Linus, and had an educational dinner meeting at St. Susanna Catholic Church in Mason. In February, we played Bingo and made Valentines with residents of Twin Towers Nursing Home, and had our dinner meeting at the Islamic Center of Greater Cincinnati. Most recently we made spring crafts with children at Ronald McDonald House and toured the facility.
Coming up April 25, we will have a day of service!
