Immigration Reform
What We’re Doing Now for Immigration
Our Action Plan for 2011 is to:
- Learn, inform, raise awareness about contributions of immigrants and research their current status in the workplace.
- Educate judicatories, congregations, private and public sector on available services to immigrants: ESL, GED, Child Welfare support and Legal services.
- Advocate for policy and programs that support reunification of families.
- Listen to workers and businesses that employ immigrants.
- Listen to, inform and educate public authorities on the need for comprehensive federal immigration reform and the potential danger and unequal impact posed by local immigration statutes.
- Advocate for the expansion of a guest worker program to legitimize immigrant labor and enable them to contribute to public funds, thereby strengthening and protecting their ability to work legally.
