January Delegates Council

January Delegates Council Meeting
Wednesday, January 13, 2010, 12pm at St. Peter in Chains Catherdral Synod Hall, 325 W 8th Street Downtown

Our speaker will be Janice Urbanik
Director, Construction Career Pathway Project
Greater Cincinnati Workforce Network, Greater Cincinnati Foundation

As our regional economy continues to struggle construction seems to be suffering the most.  Unemployment is high and the local labor market is challenged by the need to increase a sufficient number of skilled and diverse people in its construction workforce.  Employers are struggling to reach their skilled workforce hiring goal.  Many Cincinnati residents have insufficient skills and the preparation to enter and succeed in the labor market.  The Greater Cincinnati Foundation has partnered with a number of organizations to develop the Greater Cincinnati Workforce Network which sponsors the Construction Career Pathway Project.  This project has developed a support and training plan that will address some of the issues that cause employment barriers in the field of construction for students and workers.  The project potentially may expand work opportunities for the workforce hired by The Banks, Metropolitan Sewer District, CPS Facilities Master Plan, CMHA projects and other private and public work projects.  Janice Urbanik brings both career and diversity training skills to the Construction Career Pathway Project.  She has worked on strategies with MARCC, the Workforce Investment Board, Urban League, Amos and other organizations to reach the goal of a plan for a well trained, skilled and diverse workforce in the field of construction to respond to employer needs.  Delegates will have an opportunity to learn more about the Career Pathway model and its potential impact on the workforce and labor market in our region.
